Abe talks about his love and fascination of the perfect and sometimes, not so perfect fan wave. These one of a kind waves were taken 12 minutes apart on the North Shore of Kaua’i with the epic Nā Pali Coast in the backdrop. Not just based on timing, a fan wave is hard to capture, you have to calculate the precise moment each wave will hit one another coming in and out the coastline to get the perfect shot to get the crystal appearance rather than the foam of a normal crashing wave. Occasionally you’ll get a “not so perfect”, wave which can be equally as spectacular as seen in the second photo, giving it a personality like no other. The VOG (volcanic SMOG) coming from the south of Big Island, Hawaii, gave a beautiful sherbet sunset in the background making this an all around stunning photo. Fan waves are one of Abe’s favorite things to photograph and we have plenty online and in the shop for you to purchase. A great memory of your stay on Kauai’s North Shore.
