Kalapaki Bay located in Lihue, protected by breakwalls which saved parts of the bay from the devastating Hurricane Iniki in 1992, is the spot for swimming, learning to surf, paddle boarding, playing volleyball or just relaxing on the beach! The bay which is in front of the Royal Sonesta Resort has been a tourist destination for years, if you want to skip the water activities you can sit on the lawn area which stays green with beautiful palms year round making it a perfect background for movies like Jurassic Park! Enjoy dinner at Duke’s Canoe Club restaurant or walk the beach and take in a stunning sunrise, sunset or stargazing. Kalapaki is frequented by fishing boats, personal and tour catamarans and the weekly cruise ship coming in and out of Nawiliwili Harbor.

Abe captured the beautiful pink and blue hues of the sky with the tall palm trees and volleyball net with his Canon EOS RP in 2023 and then transferred it into one of his unique wood transfers on Koa. For more photographs from Kauai on wood, visit Abe’s Kauai Photo inside Harbor Mall, Lihue or on social media and check out all of his sought after pieces. Custom wood transfers are also available.
