Salt Pond Sunset

Incredible twilight hues and dark clouds cascade across the spacious sky and reflect in the waters of the Hanapepe Salt Ponds on the west side of Kauai. This area has been used since ancient times for the production of salt. Pa’akai (sea salt, or literally, “to solidify the sea”) is a unique and ancient tradition that has been passed down generation to generation for over 100 years. Kauai is the only island in the Hawaiian Archipelago that produces salt according to ancient traditions.
