Secret Beach Sunrise

This image was taken at sunrise June 9, 2016 at Secret Beach (Kaua-pe’a Beach).

To photograph the sunrise, you have to leave your home while it’s still dark out not knowing what the sky will look like when the sun starts to rise.  The best way to be sure you get the best location and opportunity for a great sunrise is to figure out where you want to be beforehand.  Having your camera set up and ready before the new day begins is crucial to getting the best shots.

Secret Beach Trail is about a mile walk, often slippery and confusing (unless you frequent Secrets!).  In the dark, its definitely not a walk you want to do in a hurry.

The effort to catch a sunrise at such a spectacular location is a wonderful analogy to this pandemic.

I’m offering a limited edition of 100 12×18″ metal prints and 25 20×30 metal prints signed and numbered with 50% of proceeds going toward helping Kauai entrepreneurs get back on their feet once we are ready to open to tourism again.  I’m currently looking for the best non profit to work with in this and would appreciate your input.

I’ve done a little research into the Hawaiian meaning of the place-name Kaua-pe’a Beach.  I’ve found this on KKCR’s Facebook Page and shortened it for ease of reading.  I really enjoy the poetic coincidences here!
