Heading to go surf Kealia Beach, Abe was driving through a light rain and happened to glance over and noticed this epic double rainbow in front of Kalalea Mountain in Anahola, Kauai and since Abe never leaves home without his camera of course he decided to pull over and take some photos….and lucky for us he did!  Kalalea Mountain has two main peaks, Hoku’alele “shooting star” and Mano “shark” for the mountain’s shark fin-like appearance. Natives believe that the hole in the far side mountain to the right of the larger peak, which was created by a lava tube, is a portal for souls to enter The Earth, The Dalai Lama XIV was even interested in visiting Kalalea Mountain because of it spiritual meaning. The large peak next to the hole resembles a monkey head to most, giving it the nickname “King Kong Peak” or “Monkey Head Mountain”. The peak is world famous regardless of what you decide it looks like and was named one of the most beautiful mountains of Kaua’i. Unfortunately the mountain does not have a hiking trail, so to see Kalalea you can stop and take in the view from the road by taking Highway 56 past mile marker 15 or view it from above with a helicopter tours of the whole island of Kauai.

Abe’s shot of the double rainbow quickly became one of his top selling rainbow photographs and we offer the piece as a wood transfer on Koa (as seen in the video), a metallic paper print or aluminum print. Kalaleu Mountain can be viewed from the highway 56 past mile marker 15. To learn more about Kalalea, our wood transfers on Koa from a Princeville farm or any other comments, questions or to check out our other creations, visit us at Abe’s Kauai Photo #1017 in Harbor Mall, Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii.
