Located on Kauai’s Nā Pali Coast next to Kalalau Valley and over 1,000 feet in length, Honopū is a deeply spiritual place as it used to house temples and is one of the oldest burial grounds of the Ali’i (nobles/royalty). Honopū’s massive arch and steep sea cliffs frame its secluded beach and two small coves making it a unique place to see while visiting Kauai. Honopū is an important and spiritual place to the Hawaiian Islands so visitors, even on boats or kayaks, are not allowed to land on the beach so the only way to see it is by helicopter or a catamaran tour of the coast line. Honopū meaning “conch shell” in Hawaiian, named for the sound the wind makes when blowing through the valley, has been used in many familiar movies, including Honeymoon in Vegas, Pirates of the Caribbean, 6 Days 7 Nights and the 1976 remake of King Kong. Abe took this photo while on a Helicopter tour with his buddy Ryan using his Canon 6D camera. Visit the gallery to see more of Abe’s metal print of Honopū and his other pieces at Abe’s Kauai Photo in Harbor Mall 1017 Lihue, Hawaii or online at www.abeskauaiphoto.com Abe’s Kaua‘i Photo.
