The Tree Tunnel – Maluhia Road
$45.00 – $3,300.00
Maluhia Road has a storied history of how it became a Tree Tunnel road here on Kauai. These eucalyptus trees were donated by Walter Duncan McBryde over a hundred years ago. Mr. McBryde of McBryde Sugar Company also managed the Kauai Pineapple company and was commonly referred to as the “Pineapple Baron”. His estate was beceame the Kukiolono Park and Golf Course. These trees were planted to give better traction on an extremely muddy road and to provide a windbreak to the sugarcane fields nearby.
The Hawaiian word Maluhia means serenity” or peaceful, a fitting word for a drive through the famous Tree Tunnel Road.
