Photography on Wood
- Photography on Wood
Abe Kowitz's unique photography wood transfers add a sense of nostalgia to the beautiful landscapes of Kauai. These pieces are typically made on Koa wood, which only grows in Hawaii, but he also uses other tropical woods such as mango and monkeypod.
This unique process utilized by Abe involves a gel transfer medium, which is applied to the photo, and placed on the wood. When it dries, he peels the paper off, and voila, the ink of the photo is transferred onto the wood. Great detail is placed on lining up the photo with the wood to highlight both the beauty of the wood and the content of the image.
Some pieces are available online, but he has a much larger inventory available in person on Kauai. Click on where to find Abe to see these nostalgic beauties in person!
