Awaawapuhi

This panoramic shot of Awaawapuhi and Nualolo Valleys was captured after I came out in the evening to hunt night rainbows. I didn’t catch any - but the expanse of clouds and light dancing in the valley begged me to take this shot. Found in Koke’e State Park, breathtaking views await you at the end of the Awa’awapuhi Trail. The trail will lead you on an incredible journey through rain forest and high desert like terrain as you descend from 4,120 feet elevation to the valley rim at 2,500 feet. The Awaawapuhi Valley is the narrowest and deepest of Na Pali’s Valleys. “Awa” means valley and “awapuhi” is the native word for the wild ginger that grows there.
